What best effort actually means

It does not mean a lesser appeal. We read your paperwork against the statute and argue the strongest grounds we can find, exactly as we would for an APCOA charge.

What changes is the promise attached to it. For the operators we handle most often we know how appeals land, so we back those with a refund. For operators we see less of, we would rather not promise a refund we cannot stand behind - so the £10 is non-refundable there, and we say so on screen before you pay rather than in the small print afterwards.

Check it for free before you spend anything

The statutory tests apply to every operator equally. A notice from an operator we do not cover is not a weaker case in law, and it is worth finding out what you are holding before you pay anyone, us included.

Both tools run in your browser, ask for no email address, and will tell you if your notice looks compliant just as readily as if it does not.

What we cannot help with

We appeal private parking charge notices. Council penalty charge notices issued by a local authority have their own statutory appeals process that nothing we do applies to, and a county court claim form is past the appeal stage and needs proper legal advice rather than us.

Best-effort appeal FAQ

What does best effort mean?

We prepare and submit an appeal on the strongest grounds available from your paperwork, exactly as we would for any other charge. What differs is the guarantee: because we have less experience of how this operator responds, the £10 is non-refundable on that route. The work is the same, the promise is smaller.

Which operators are covered by the refund guarantee?

APCOA Parking, Indigo Park Services and Saba Parking are covered by operator. Two situations are also covered whatever the operator's name: a railway station car park, and a Notice to Keeper that arrived 15 or more days after the parking date. You are told which route you are on before you pay.

Why are some operators not covered?

The guarantee reflects where we have a track record, not where we think an appeal is winnable. We would rather be honest that an outcome is less predictable with an operator we see less often than promise a refund we cannot stand behind.

Is a best-effort appeal worth £10?

That is your call, and it depends on the paperwork. Run your notice through our free deadline calculator and Notice to Keeper checker first - both take about a minute and neither asks for payment. If they find a defect, a best-effort appeal has something concrete to argue. If they find nothing, you may prefer not to spend the £10.

What if my charge is not a private parking charge at all?

Council penalty charge notices from a local authority, and county court claim forms, are outside what we do. If you are not sure what you are holding, email a photo to support@appealpilot.co.uk before you pay and we will tell you honestly. If something slips through, we refund it.
